Angkor is not one monument. It is an inhabited cultural landscape of temples, former capitals, reservoirs, roads, forest and villages spread across roughly 400 square kilometres. A good first visit chooses a coherent route instead of chasing the highest possible temple count.
Not sure which pass to buy? Our Angkor travel guide has a quick pass picker with official prices, route ideas and links to every temple guide.
Choose your pass only after choosing your pace
Ticket products, validity rules, entry times and access arrangements can change. Check the official Angkor Enterprise information before purchase and avoid unofficial sellers. Then match the pass to the number of mornings you genuinely want in the park.
Essential Angkor
Angkor Wat → Angkor Thom and Bayon → Ta Prohm. Start early, pause through midday and do not add distant temples.
Context and detail
Day one: the essential circuit. Day two: Banteay Srei plus one or two quieter sites chosen with your guide or driver.
Slower and broader
Separate Angkor Wat from Angkor Thom, give Banteay Srei its own countryside route and leave space for a lesser-visited monument.
Regional heritage
Add Koh Ker, Sambor Prei Kuk or Preah Vihear as distinct journeys, not as rushed extensions to a full Angkor day.
Transport and guiding
A tuk-tuk or car with a local driver is the simplest arrangement for most visitors. Confirm the route, start time, midday break and whether distant sites cost extra. A licensed Cambodian guide adds history, symbolism and route judgment; a driver and a guide are different services.
Heat, rain and stairs
Begin hydrated, carry sun and rain protection and wear stable footwear. Stone becomes slippery, shade is uneven and some stairways are steep. You can experience Angkor without climbing every upper level. Build in a real break rather than enduring the hottest hours.
Visitor code
APSARA’s official guidance asks visitors to dress appropriately, respect monks and worshippers, avoid touching or climbing structures, take litter away and avoid giving money to children. Current signs and staff directions always take priority over a saved itinerary.
