Cambodia’s history reaches far beyond any single period. Begin with archaeological landscapes and Khmer architecture, then follow future collections through early states, Angkor, colonial rule, independence, conflict, recovery and contemporary change.
Read history through place
Inside Angkor
Four World Heritage landscapes
Angkor
Successive Khmer capitals, temples, water systems, routes and living communities.
Preah Vihear
A Shiva sanctuary whose long axis responds to a dramatic plateau edge.
Sambor Prei Kuk
Pre-Angkorian Ishanapura and a distinctive tradition of brick architecture.
Koh Ker
A former capital and archaeological landscape with its own monumental language.
How we approach history
Dates and labels are tools, not the whole past. We distinguish archaeological evidence, inscriptions, later chronicles, modern interpretation and local tradition where that distinction matters. Sacred places can also have continuing religious meaning beyond their original patronage.
The next history release will add a visual chronology and dedicated introductions to early Cambodia, the Angkorian period and modern historical orientation. Sensitive subjects will be handled carefully and separately from destination promotion.
