Before You Travel to Cambodia

Quick facts, a staged checklist and the key decisions to make before you fly to Cambodia.

Your departure board

What should you prepare next?

Choose where you are in the journey. The priority changes as departure gets closer.

Start with the shape

Choose season, pace and places before individual bookings

A comfortable route is more valuable than a long wish list. Decide how you want the journey to feel, then compare destinations.

A calm arrival begins before the flight. Start with the quick facts, work through the checklist in stages, save essential records offline and recheck anything time-sensitive close to departure.

Official sources make the final decision

Visa eligibility depends on your passport, purpose, entry point and travel date. Check Cambodia’s official e-Visa and e-Arrival services directly. For personal health questions, speak with a qualified travel-health professional.

Quick facts before you fly

Emergency numbers117 police, 118 fire, 119 ambulance. More contacts on Need help in Cambodia.

AirportsKTI for Phnom Penh and SAI for Siem Reap. Both are well outside the city: read the Phnom Penh and Siem Reap arrival guides.
LanguageKhmer is the national language. English is widely understood in visitor areas, and a few Khmer greetings go a long way.

Start with these decisions

02 · Entry

Check entry requirements

Passport validity, visa or exemption, and the e-Arrival form. Use the official channels for your passport and route.

03 · Health

Health and insurance

Speak with a travel-health professional about vaccinations and mosquito protection, and choose insurance that covers medical care and evacuation.

04 · Money

Carry a payment mix

Combine riel, US dollars, a working card or digital option and a separately stored backup. Sample costs are in the budget guide.

07 · Connectivity

Get connected

Compare a local SIM, an eSIM and roaming before you land, and download offline maps.

08 · Packing

Pack for place and weather

Prioritise breathable clothing, respectful temple wear, rain protection and essentials that are personal.

Long flights, immigration, weather and road conditions can all alter an arrival. Check in, organise connectivity and money, eat and rest. Cambodia will still be there the next morning.

The useful mindset

Plan the parts that are difficult to replace: entry, first night and major transfers. Keep meals, neighbourhood walks and smaller discoveries open.
