Cambodia Handbook

Need Help in Cambodia?

Keep this page within reach for emergency numbers, official assistance and calm next steps when a journey does not go to plan.

Most journeys go smoothly. When something unexpected happens, begin with safety, communication and the smallest useful next step. This page provides general visitor orientation—not medical, legal or emergency-service advice.

01

Lost passport

  1. Move somewhere safe and check bags, room safes and the last place where you showed it.
  2. Contact the Tourist Police to ask where to file a loss report.
  3. Contact your embassy or consular service for replacement-document instructions.
  4. Keep copies of the police report, identification and onward bookings together.
  5. Ask the airline or border operator what document it will require; an embassy document alone may not resolve every travel arrangement.
02

Phone or wallet missing

  1. Move to a safe, staffed place and use another device to lock the phone and payment cards.
  2. Contact the bank using a number from its official website or the back of another card—not a number supplied in an unsolicited message.
  3. Ask the Tourist Police how to report a suspected theft or loss.
  4. Change essential passwords, beginning with email and financial accounts.
  5. Contact your insurer before replacing expensive items if the policy requires a report or prior notification.
03

ATM kept my card

  1. Do not accept help from a stranger asking for a PIN, password or remote access.
  2. Photograph or write down the ATM location, bank name, machine number and time.
  3. Call the bank through its official website or visit a staffed branch.
  4. Lock or freeze the card through the bank app while the situation is resolved.
  5. If the machine looks altered or transactions appear, report them to the bank immediately.
04

Road accident

  1. Move away from traffic if it is safe to do so and call 119 for urgent medical help.
  2. Do not move a seriously injured person unless remaining in place presents immediate danger.
  3. Ask police or Tourist Police for assistance and notify your insurer promptly.
  4. Record the location, vehicle details, driver information and photographs only when safe.
  5. Avoid signing a document you do not understand; request translation or consular guidance.
05

Illness or fever

  1. Seek medical attention urgently for breathing difficulty, confusion, severe dehydration, uncontrolled bleeding or rapidly worsening symptoms.
  2. Contact the travel insurer for its current facility and payment guidance.
  3. Tell the clinician where in Cambodia you have travelled and about mosquito, freshwater or animal exposure.
  4. Do not assume that fever is routine heat exhaustion; malaria and dengue risks differ by location and activity.
  5. For an emergency, call 119. Cambodia Handbook cannot assess symptoms or recommend medication.
06

Animal bite or scratch

  1. Wash the wound immediately and thoroughly with soap and running water.
  2. Seek qualified medical care promptly, even when the wound appears small.
  3. Tell the clinician what animal was involved, where it happened and whether the skin was broken.
  4. Contact the insurer if treatment or transfer may be required.
  5. Do not wait for symptoms before requesting professional advice about rabies exposure.
07

Cancelled or missed transport

  1. Confirm the cancellation directly with the operator and keep the ticket or booking message.
  2. Ask for the next available departure, refund process and written confirmation.
  3. Tell the next accommodation if arrival will change.
  4. Avoid accepting an unverified replacement ride under pressure.
  5. If travel would now continue late at night, consider pausing until daylight.
08

Stranded after dark

  1. Stay in a bright, staffed location such as the terminal, reception area or established business.
  2. Contact the accommodation through the details in the original booking.
  3. Use an official taxi desk or a transport app you already recognize.
  4. Share the vehicle and destination details with someone you trust.
  5. If you feel unsafe or are being threatened, call police or Tourist Police.
