Cambodia Handbook

Your First 24 Hours in Cambodia

A flexible landing-day plan for Phnom Penh or Siem Reap—shaped around when you arrive and how much energy you have.

Your arrival day should reduce uncertainty, not become a compressed itinerary. Use this planner to shape a first day around your gateway, landing window and likely energy. It does not replace current airport instructions, transport confirmation or accommodation communication.

Afternoon arrival · Phnom Penh

A balanced first day in Phnom Penh

The goal is not to maximise the arrival day. It is to reach the first stay, become comfortable and begin tomorrow with energy.

01 · ReachFirst stay before sightseeing

Go to the first stay before making any new decisions.

02 · ResetFood, water and orientation

Reset, drink water and choose dinner close to the accommodation.

03 · NoticeOne modest experience

After settling in, allow one short walk or relaxed meal nearby. Use remaining daylight for a short orientation walk only.

04 · ProtectKeep tomorrow spacious

Keep the next morning local: breakfast, a riverside or neighbourhood walk, then one major visit.

Your choices are kept in the page address and are not sent to Cambodia Handbook.

Three principles for a better arrival day

01

Remove friction first

Reach the accommodation, understand the immediate surroundings, and solve only the money or connectivity you need now.

02

Choose proximity over fame

A nearby meal or short neighbourhood walk is usually a better first experience than crossing the city for a landmark.

03

Protect the next morning

Do not borrow tomorrow’s energy to rescue a few hours that were always part of the arrival.

If the arrival does not go to plan

Return to the essentials: the address and contact details for the first stay, a confirmed transfer option, access to a payment backup, and a working way to communicate. Delay optional activities until you are settled. For airport-specific preparation, use the Phnom Penh arrival guide or the Siem Reap arrival guide.

Continue after the first day

Once you feel oriented, continue to Visitor Essentials, compare where to go in Cambodia, or use the Journey Reality Checker to make sure the rest of the route has room to breathe.
